Over 300 youth in Naivasha town took to the streets to protest over being locked out of job opportunities in the upcoming World Rally Championship (WRC). The youth took an issue with their elected leaders for failing to advocate for jobs for the locals.

The President had visited Naivasha shortly before the protest and promised the youth that there will be job opportunities for them and that they would be given first priority during the recruitment process.

Simon Wakaba, the leader of the protest and a youth leader stated that the local youth had not benefitted from the preparations of the World Rally Championship that has been going on for months. He further stated that this is the third year running since the WRC event has been happening in Naivasha but the organisers keep ignoring the locals and instead contract outsiders for the several jobs that come with the sporting event.

The protest was disrupted by the police who threw tear gas at the protesters.
