Human Rights Activists and other citizens gathered in the streets of Mombasa ahead of the scheduled Saba Saba protests to demonstrate against the high cost of living experienced across the country.
As they marched with their placards, the police was seen trying to stop the crowd from marching ahead and then lobbed teargas at them. The organiser of the protest stated that a notification of the protest had been given to the police and the OCS was very cooperative with regards to giving the protesters protection as they marched towards the County Treasury to present their petition. At the beginning of the protest, some police officers are seen joining the protest and marching with the crowds.
It was a very disappointing encounter when the police turned against the protesters and lobbed teargas to disperse them.
