On 7th July, citizens of Homa Bay county called to the street to join in the national protests to commemorate the 33rd Saba Saba day and to protest against the high costs of living and the over-taxation of citizens in the recently passed Finance Act.
The youth marched on the street as they blocked several roads in the county. The police disrupted the protest by lobbing teargas to the crowds as well as using live bullets to disperse the crowds. One man was shot dead by police in the encounter.
