Residents and matatu drivers in Kajiado took to the streets to protest over increased road carnage in the area which they attributed to the laxity of law enforcement on traffic offences. The transport stakeholders stated that the recklessness enabled by law enforcement has cost so many road users their lives along the Nairobi-Namanga Road.

One of the complaints raised by the protesters was that the traffic police has been compromised and they usually fail to arrest the traffic offenders or they release them without any consequences. This has been attributed to the rise in corruption cases on the roads.

This laxity has caused the death of over twenty drivers in the last two years. These accidents have mainly been caused by truck drivers from Tanzania. The courts have also been accused of enabling reckless driving by the truck drivers by releasing them and as a result, the drivers would disappear.

The protesters therefore demanded that the police to take action and arrest the suspects to prevent future loss of lives. The second demanded was that the government to ensure that the suspects are fully prosecuted and convicted. They also demanded the courts should not release suspects since they are considered flight risk.

The protests were however peaceful with no interruptions or violence from the police.
