Following the national protests led by Azimio party leader, On 28th March 2023, Northlands City, a property belonging to the former president Uhuru Kenyatta was invaded by looters who pretended to be protesters. Livestock was stolen and trees cut by the said culprits and the property was later set on fire.
The Inspector General of Police said they have launched an investigation following the invasion and working towards arresting the culprits and bringing them to book. He further appealed to the public and protesters to adhere to the law even as they exercise their constitutional right to protest.
Destruction of property, theft and trespassing into private property is not part of peaceful assembly and as a result waters down the right hence causing the stigmatisation of protests.
