On 12th July 2023, the residents of Mombasa took to the streets to protest against the high cost of living in the country.
As protesters marched in the streets of Mombasa, the police lobbed teargas to disperse the crowds. Businesses in the CBD remained shut down as fear and tension swept through the city.
Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki had notified the police of the demos. This was after the Inspector General of the Police termed the demos as illegal.
