Protesters in Limuru took to the streets to protest the mistreatment of female employees at Brown Cheese Limited. The undignified occurrence took place when two female employees were forced to undress in the company’s premises to confirm whether the two employees were menstruating. This was as a result of an incident where someone had disposed a used sanitary towel in the wrong bin.
Women human rights defenders were deeply concerned of the incident and demanded the dismissal of the perpetrators. The company has since suspended three of its managers and issued an apology to the employees and to women in general for the disturbing and embarrassing occurrence. It was however a peaceful protest that was not interrupted by police violence. WHRDs peacefully exercised their Freedom of Assembly.
The company is fully cooperating with the police to investigate the incidence and charge the perpetrators.
