On August 1 2023, frustrated parents and residents in Eldoret town took to the streets to protest against an aborted airlift education program piloted by Uasin Gishu County Government. The parents had paid millions of shillings to the county government to facilitate the education program for their children.

The parents demanded for a refund when the county government failed to actualise the program. The protesters claimed that their money had been siphoned through the ‘pathway learning program’ and agents were paid without their consent. Pathway was an online learning approach where students who were to go to Finland were taught the Finnish language and basic training in their respective courses. The police blocked the protesters from accessing the county headquarters.

The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are already investigating the alleged loss of KES. 38 million in this saga.
