As protesters took to the streets to commemorate the 33rd Saba Saba day and protest against the high cost of living and the recently passed Finance Act. The protest was disrupted by a violent encounter by the police who lobbed teargas to the protests. Several protesters were injured including Boniface Ongori who suffered limb fractures after being caught in the violent encounter with the police. Mr. Ongori was in his stall when he saw the protesters running towards his stall. While he tried to hurriedly close down the stall, police caught up with him and beat him up leading to his several limb injuries. He lost consciousness in the process. Several other protesters are in critical condition due to excessive bleeding. A police officer was seen tackling and assaulting an elderly woman during the protest.
The police started using live bullets to disperse the crowds which led to the death of one woman.
