The Kenya Power Union Leaders took to the streets to protest over the assault of their colleague by the Member of Parliament of Kitui East, Nimrod Mbai. The incident occurred when the engineer and member of staff of Kenya Power and Lighting Company was allegedly ejecting illegal power poles around the vicinity of the MP’s home.

In a video, the Mr. Mbai is seen armed and assaulting the engineer while hurling insults at a him. This incident led to the Union protesting over the acts of the MP. The Engineers’ body came to the defence of their colleague and stated that no one should be subjected to harassment, intimidation and assault while in the line of duty. They further condemned the acts of the MP and demanded justice for their colleague. They highlighted that the MP should have used a better means to air his grievances instead of assaulting and insulting the KPLC staffer. They also demanded that the Firearm Licensing Board to permanently bar the MP from being a firearm holder.

Nimrod Mbai was arraigned in court for the assault of the KPLC engineer.

These protests were however not interrupted by the police. The protesters did not experience any form of violence from the police.
