Lamu residents took to the streets to protest the death of a fellow resident named Miji Aboud who was allegedly murdered by the police.  Miji was found dead at Gadeni in Lamu town shortly after being arrested by the police for alleged drug trafficking. The Assistant County Commissioner, Philip Oloo  made a statement stating that Miji was arrested with heroin but upon arrest, he swallowed the drugs. He further stated that the officers tried to retrieve the evidence (heroin) and in the process, Miji was strangled to death.

The protesters marched to King Fahd Hospital where the body of the deceased was taken by the police. The Assistant County Commissioner called for peace while further investigations took place. The local administration including the Chief of Langoni location stated that the police used excessive force despite the deceased having been in possession of heroin which is an illegal drug.The family of the deceased called for justice and police reforms.
